I think this proposal is probably a good one. I think the government taxes people for unnessary reasons. And where do my taxes go - to the CEOs and the professional atheletes. Cut the federal taxes completely, pay a set rate national sales tax on everything which is purchased (say 5%), from a stick of gum to a million dollar mansion. No matter what the purchase is, slap a sales tax on it, at a national rate. Not an area rate, or a "depends on what you earn" rate. If you buy it, you can pay the sales tax. My federal taxes are so high, single with no dependents, that I have lived pay check to pay check my entire working career. I do not make enough to save for my retirement, and I do not live above my means. If I don't NEED it, I do not get it. My father taught this to me, and I have stuck with it. The federal government is so greedy that they want to take almost 1/3 of my gross pay. The rest goes towards basic living expenses such as - water, electricity and health expenses. The government tells me I do not qualify for any help because I "make too much money." When I had a much needed operation in 2000, my hospital bill alone was almost $20000, and then I had all the doctors on top of that. I am still paying thoses bills, because insurance refused to pay. "It was not a NEEDED surgery." I had tumors growing in me, but yet it was an unnecessary surgery. Give me a break. And, with all the money that I have to pay just to have medical insurance, I should be able to choose what doctors and what hospitals I want to use. It all boils down to the governement and the unfair taxes. I am only 12 years away from retirement age, but yet I cannot get full retirement until I am 70 1/2 years old!!! I have paid taxes my entire working life and I want my money back. Yes, you have my vote for Fairtax bill.
